A couple questions for Bill
« on: March 16, 2006, 01:23:26 AM »
Hi Bill,

Is matter standing waves?
http://www.spaceandmotion.com/summary-faq-wsm.htm

I was also wondering if you've heard of the Rodin coil?
http://www.rodinaerodynamics.org/
And what you think about it.

Thanks,

"Rodin coil" article appears to be numerology and pure alt-science theory.  I have little interest in those topics, so someone else will have to spend the time to figure out those articles.

When my email list was active, the first rule was "no longwinded theorizing, this is an experiments forum."   Once we've broken loose from textbook science, it becomes way too easy to fool ourselves with pet theories which warp our perceptions and make us biased; searching only for confirming evidence while covering up anything that demonstrates our errors.  I'm interested in weird experimental results instead.  The best results go against conventional physics AND against alt-science theories.  Anomalies hold the key to new discoveries.

I agree with Bill on this one. Also, doesn't even a standing wave have to have *something* creating the waves in the first place? Never heard of a wave created from nothing...

Sure, but remember that friction is caused by collision statistics.  At the level of subatomic particles, you can have frictionless situations.

Suppose a "big bang" created a bunch of spherical standing waves (sort of like a water droplet falling into a pool and repeatedly re-creating a droplet launched upwards.)   Without friction, such a wave would exist perpetually.
